Amy Von Bargen
As a child I always loved making art but I didn’t really touch clay until I was an adult. I quickly fell in love with pottery mostly because I enjoyed the many steps and processes required to turn a piece of soft clay into an actual pot. My pieces are hand built from slabs of stoneware clay. Using slabs allows me to construct pots into interesting shapes and designs that have a contemporary aesthetic. Texture and lines on the pots surface interact with my glazes so that the variation of color enhances the design. They are high-fired to produce functional, durable pieces that can be used frequently.
I intend for my pots to feel satisfying in your hands and to add a sense of beauty and quiet ceremony to daily life.
I participate in various art shows and exhibitions each year. In addition, my work can be found in galleries and I maintain a studio in Minneapolis’ arts district.
